According to the Department of Road Transport, 22% of vehicle owners have yet to pay their road tax for 2018. In a campaign to catch drivers operating without a valid road tax license, police have been enforcing random stop checks and even randomly pulling vehicles over on motorways. The campaign operated for just 48 hours (Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th) and it is reported that over 2000 fines were issued to drivers.
"We will continue to work closely with the DoRT to ensure that drivers are operating their vehicles legally on the road" - A spokesman for the Nicosia police department.
The last accepted date to pay road tax in Cyprus was Sunday 11th of March, giving more than 2 months since the beginning of the year for the fee to be paid and license to be printed. Fines have been reported to average 110 euros that were issued in the past few days, and police plan to continue the operation into next week.
It's not too late. If you have not yet paid your road tax license, you can do so easily on JCC Smart with your registration number and the last 3 digits of your ID (Passport number, ID card number or Residency number - whichever was used to register the vehicle).
